Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has disclosed of plans by the state government to shoulder the responsibility of sponsoring all the abducted Chibok schoolgirls to school in other parts of the country.
Shettima diclosed this on Monday while receiving some of the abducted girls and their parents at the Maiduguri Government House.
He stated that government was thinking of either Abuja, Kano, Lagos, Kaduna or other states of the country for the students to repeat their final year and prepare themselves properly for their final year examinations.
According to the governor, “it is mandatory for the state government to ensure the speedy return or release of the girls and it is the sole responsibility of government to see that these girls are back home without politicising the matter.
“This is not politics. There is no need we should play politics with the abduction of these children. We have children and we know what it is for these girls to be missing. We are human beings and should have feelings.
“The security responsibility of the state is not with me under the emergency. Everything is in Abuja and people just sit down there and begin to doubt that these girls are not abducted or missing when we all have children and we know what is it to get your child missing and nothing is being done to rescue them before harm is inflicted on them. It worries me and it is painful.
“We have been directing the Chibok Local Government Council Chairman and other community leaders to help us talk to them, appeal to them and console them on our behalf; we will also come and appeal to them too and console them again over the delay in the release of their children.
“We are not unmindful of the trauma and plight they have been exposed to. The parents are suffering. The students too are suffering. some don’t even sleep because of their children. We called you here to appeal to you to exercise some restrain and be patient. We are doing our best and we shall not relent on our effort to cushion your suffering and ensure quick release of our daughters”, Shettima said.
The Governor also directed the Chibok Council Chairman, Mr. Baana Lawan to compile a comprehensible list and modalities of how the state government will financially and materially assist both the parents and students of the abducted schoolgirls in Chibok while plans for their schooling outside the state is being pursued.
Earlier the leader of the abducted Chibok students and parents, Mr. Baana Lawan, who is also the Chairman Chibok Council Arean said they were at the Government House Maiduguri on the invitation of the State Governor.
He disclosed that only 27 students and 32 parents were available because some of the students have been relocated by their parents to their relations outside the state.
