Nigeria Will Emerge Stronger – Tambuwal

The Speaker, House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, said Nigeria would emerge a stronger nation from the Boko Haram sect attacks.

Tambuwal said this while addressing the Federation of Muslim Women Associations (FOMWAN), which paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.

The speaker described the activities of Boko Haram as “wicked and not in tandem with Islamic religion’’ in all ramifications.

Tambuwal disclosed that committees of the House were being frustrated by government ministries and agencies during oversight functions.

He said that the Parliament had not done enough through oversight because of the frustration from government agencies.

“We have not been able to do much because we meet a lot of resistance from most of these agencies, “he said.

According to him, if the country is to succeed, things must also be done in the manner as obtained in the countries where the presidential system of government is copied.

Tambuwal said that the House would continue to work assiduously to address the challenges being faced by the nation.

He explained that the approval for extension of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe was borne out of the need to provide a legal framework for the security forces to work.

Earlier, the Deputy National President of FOMWAN, Farida Sada, said their hearts were heavy, and bleeding with the continuous shedding of innocent blood of Nigerians.

She called on all decent Nigerians to speak out against the wickedness that was being perpetuated in the country.

Sada said the group joined other Nigerians in lamenting the inability of security agencies and elected representatives of the people to explain the phenomenon, apprehend culprits and halt this deadly trend.

She called on the Federal Government to mobilise enough resources to fight the insurgents.

Sada also called of the Federal Government to release the reports and white papers from the various committees set up in the wake of the insurgency.

The president called on lawmakers from the North east to identify with the people through visits and material support. (NAN)
